It was great to welcome Baroness Brinton, Lib Dem Party President, to join local members and supporters in Newbury last week, to celebrate our Parliamentary Campaign launch and the launch The Lib Dem West Berkshire Council Manifesto for 2015.

For the event, Newbury Town Hall was decked out with LD diamonds, balloons and strings of Yellow Bunting, run up by the ‘Bunting Crew’ for supporters to hang from our windows throughout the campaign (see photo). We have a lot to celebrate:

* Baroness Brinton said:”Judith is an outstanding local campaigner who will be an excellent MP. Like all our Lib Dem MPs, she will stand up for a fairer society and the needs of everyone in Newbury, Thatcham, Hungerford and the outlying parishes.

“In government, our party has achieved many positive and beneficial things for people across the UK, which would not have happened with a single party Conservative majority government.”

* Launching the Council Manifesto, Cllr Jeff Brooks said: “We are committed to providing a Council that listens to our residents, that respects your opinions and that works relentlessly to provide you with better services that put you, our customers, at the heart of our plans and efforts. Even in a time of austerity we can and should be ambitious for our district and our services.”

* Judith Bunting said: “As I go door to door, I am hearing that people are really ready for Liberal Democrat leadership in our area again. Just yesterday, a man in Thatcham told me: “Ten years is enough. I don’t like political monopoly. When they think they can take you for granted, politicians stop listening.”

“The values of openness, compassion and tolerance that maintained Lib Dem representation in parliament for Newbury and West Berkshire for so many years are still alive and well. I hope everyone will come out and support our campaign.”

If you would like to join the team in action for May 2015 we would love to see you. Please email Judith atjudith.bunting@wbld.org.uk
