Judith Bunting, Liberal Democrat MEP for the South East of England, has welcomed the news that the European Parliament has this afternoon approved €2.8bn additional funding for the Erasmus+ programme, which provides financial and logistical support for EU students to live, train and study abroad.

Judith Bunting, the Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Education, apprenticeship campaigner and a career educationalist said: “I’m absolutely delighted by this evening’s announcement. Better education opportunities for youngsters, like this, mean better employment opportunities. Better employment opportunities mean a skilled workforce that can provide the taxes necessary to boost out economy and pay for public services. It really is that simple.

“Aside from the clear economic argument, it is also important for our young people to have the chance to live, love and earn in other countries. Erasmus+ enables U.K. youngsters to do just that. It’s not just for university students, but for young apprentices and budding entrepreneurs.

“Let’s consider just how many more lives we can embolden with €2.8bn additional funding, then ask yourself, is Brexit really the best way forward?”
